MICHAEL O’DEA

Michael O’Dea spent a lifetime involved in horticulture and gardening in many different ways.  Part of his working life was spent at Poinsettia Nurseries from which he retired some years ago.

His contribution to the gardening community was significant in breadth and depth and was sustained over a very long period of time.

Michael was a founding member of a number of horticultural societies and was afforded life membership in three of them in recognition of his contribution in a variety of roles.

In addition he had been an active member of at least 12 other gardening clubs or horticultural societies.  His multiple roles included day to day administrative tasks as well as helping with the organisation and conduct of shows and events held at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Auditorium or other venues.

Michael was also an accredited horticultural judge and performed this function at many clubs and society shows.  He also contributed articles to journals, newsletters and other publications.

Michael was always concerned to see that clubs and societies are conducted in a well organised, efficient and proper manner always compliant with the requirements of any legislative and legal obligations.

He was well known and respected throughout the gardening community. His loss will be felt keenly by so many people across the whole spectrum of the gardening world.

RIP Michael Slainte
