EKKA QCGC Volunteers

QCGC will hold a stand at the EKKA coordinated by the Ipswich Horticultural Society Inc. with Sandra Logue is the Coorinator.  Sandra  is loking for volunteers to supply plants for display. The theme is "Rainbow Cnnections" so bring colourfull plants (Yellow, Green, Red, Blue and Orange pots).  Phone Sandra direct for details or fill out the volunteer details.  Anne Baster will be the QCGC contact..

This morning, the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, the Honorable Mark Bailey MP, announced changes to public transport for this year’s Royal Queensland Show due to the Cross River Rail project (CRR).

Due to major construction works on Exhibition Station, as part of CRR, Exhibition Station won’t be operating during Ekka 2023. However, there will be plenty of transport options available for our valued Ekka patrons, with multiple alternative travel options including nearby bus and train stations, bus shuttles and special services for passengers with accessibility needs.

CRR, Translink and Queensland Rail have worked with the RNA to ensure multiple alternative train and bus travel options for your journey to this year’s Show. You can catch a train to Fortitude Valley or a bus shuttle to Herston – it is then just a 500-metre walk to the nearest show gate. There will also be a dedicated shuttle to pick up people with accessibility needs from the Fortitude Valley Station and Herston and drop off directly at the Show gates.

The CRR project is transforming Exhibition Station into a new, fully accessible station, that will provide year-round services to Bowen Hills, Herston Quarter and the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH). Once complete, the new station will provide major benefits for our Brisbane Showgrounds precinct which hosts more than 300 events a year, including the Ekka, and attracts a million visitors annually.

As the old Exhibition station had to be demolished to build the new year-round station, CRR advised that a temporary platform solution had been proposed for Ekka 2023, however due to a range of factors, including safety, it was not feasible.

Transport options for this year’s Ekka include trains to and from neighbouring stations Fortitude Valley and Bowen Hills, high frequency buses to and from Herston station plus a dedicated Ekka shuttle between Woolloongabba and Herston stations.

With the Ekka just 77 days away, planning is in full swing, and we can’t wait to bring the country and city together at Queensland’s biggest and most loved event to celebrate agriculture and create those magical show memories.
