Noosa Tewantin Garden Club
60th Birthday 2024
Noosa /Tewantin Garden Club’s 60th anniversary Friendship Day.
On the 11th May 1964 the Tewantin-Noosa Garden Club was formed when 17 intending members met in the C.W.A. Rooms Tewantin and elected President Ida Duncan, Secretary Helen Edwards and Treasurer Mrs McGladrigan, thus establishing a non-fundraising, non-profit making club that welcomed all interested gardeners.

The Noosa Tewantin Garden Club had lots to celebrate at their friendship day this year, a patron, a new life member and a 60th anniversary. The theme for the day was ‘living in a tropical paradise,’and everyone was invited to dress up in their most colourful, tropical clothes and with tropical decorations and foliage to suit, the gift to other clubs, attending being a scallop shell with a Tillandsias plant along with a commemerative pen, and the speaker Steve Flood’s topic was also Tropical Plants.
The Committee and members all gave this day every effort to make it a successful event, both for us and our guests. Our past President and now Life Member was both surprised and delighted to receive this award, and Frank Wilkie, Lord Mayor of Noosa was very gracious in accepting the position of Patron, although he admits he is not a gardener.
The club was also delighted to receive commemorative awards from both The Garden Clubs of Australia and the Queensland Council of Garden Clubs on this our 60th Anniversary.
May we continue to sow the seeds of friendship, cultivate the bonds of community, and nurture the beauty of our gardens for many more decades.
Lois Walters, new Life Member with Marilyn Watson.
At Tewantin Noosa Garden Club’s Friendship Day Lois Walters was awarded a life membership for her active service to the club during her 21 year membership. Congratulations Lois, all clubs need more members like you.
